Wood co-sleeper, which is defined by its Nordic design language, is executed in 100% solid birch and oak. The bed, with its safety-approved design, accommodates a variety of needs: Continuous height adjustment ensures a precise relationship with the parents’ bed (bed clearance 44 – 63,5 cm), which, however, the baby cannot roll into.

Why choose acot for your baby and for how long?

After birth, during baby's first few months, the cot is really the ideal bed for your baby to sleep in comfort and safety. Indeed, up until the age of 3 months, your baby will spend up to 18 hours in its cot.
In a large cot, your baby may feel a little lost. After birth, and especially after the comfort and warmth of the womb, your baby needs to be in a cosy, warm, comfortable cocoon. The cradle is very much appreciated by babies who like to feel "contained" in a space that is theirs and theirs alone.

After spending 9 months in the warmth of their mother's womb, the cradle will provide your baby with comfort and serenity for the first few days of their life and their many hours of sleep in their room or their parents' room.

The choice of mattress is also essential. A quality cot mattress must be made from natural materials to respect baby's health. When offered, we recommend that you always choose the mattress offered by the brand that designed the cot. The ideal thickness of the mattress should be between 10 and 15 cm, and for safety reasons the mattress should fit the exact shape of the cradle, whether it is rounded, oval or rectangular.

According to the professionals of the early childhood, the cradle is really the ideal baby bed to make sleep your child during its first months and Rêves et Merveilles also recommends it warmly to you.

On the other hand, this investment has a cost because the baby cradle cannot be used beyond 6 months when baby will have to move to the cot. In fact, the baby cradle should no longer be used as soon as your child is able to stand up on his own. 6 months is an approximate age to move from the cradle to the baby bed size 60 x 120 cm or the evolving baby bed size 70 x 140 cm. Parents often realise that baby is running out of space, that he can no longer stretch out as easily as before... in short, that it is time to change!

What are the different types of baby cots for what purposes?

Rêves et Merveilles has selected different types of cradles, which are all functional, design and meet safety standards.

First of all, the rocking cradles which will reassure your baby and rock him gently. Some rocking cradles also reproduce rocking movements so that baby feels rocked as if in mummy's womb.

A cradle reassures your baby who will spend a lot of time in it. Some cradles even reproduce rocking movements so that your baby feels as if he or she is in the womb.

In our selection of cradles that rock baby by reproducing swinging movements, we have 2 favourites:
- our first favourite is the brilliant suspended cradle from the Danish brand LEANDER, which is very popular with design lovers. This cradle has the particularity of not resting on the floor but being suspended from an aluminium tripod or attached directly to the ceiling. This rocking cradle, a sort of suspended bassinet, allows baby to feel perfectly safe with the ergonomic shape of the cradle like a cocoon with a pure design.
- Our second favourite is the KUMI cradle from the French brand CHARLIE CRANE. This vintage-inspired wooden cradle comes in several colours with interchangeable coloured laces. This creation by designer Gaspard Tiné-Bérès perfectly combines safety, design and functionality. Baby will be rocked by the lateral rocking of the cradle and will gently awaken to the world with the transparency of the cotton mesh and the laces.

Rêves et Merveilles has also selected for you the most beautiful cododo cradles that meet the great trend of the moment.
Indeed, the Cododo cradle is THE trendy baby bed since a few years. For greater practicality and to avoid frequent trips to the baby's room, but also to reassure your little one, many parents have chosen to install the cradle next to the parents' bed. Originating in the United States, the practice of co-sleeping is becoming more and more popular in France.

There are several types of co-sleeping cradles, but our favourite is the one that has a modular side and can be placed next to the parental bed. Adjustable in height, the cradle will be perfectly secure, well stuck against the parental bed and fixed to it. The removable barrier will allow you to breastfeed your child more easily. The Cododo WOOD cradle from the Danish brand OLIVER FURNITURE meets these criteria and is ideal for breastfeeding. This cradle is attached to the parents' bed with straps and is adjustable in height. When your child grows up, this cododo cradle can be transformed into a lovely bench bed, a sort of small bench that is very decorative in a child's room. Note the wheels that allow you to move it easily from one room to another.
Very often, the brands propose you to decorate your cot with an arrow of bed which will allow you to suspend a mobile above your baby or a pretty curtain to create a cosy and romantic atmosphere for your baby who will be wrapped in a bubble of softness. The brands also very often propose to complete the purchase of this piece of furniture with the mattress perfectly adapted to the dimensions of the cradle.

And finally, Rêves et Merveilles has selected for you ravishing cradles in rattan, answering the great vegetable trend of the moment. The French brand THEO has imagined a whole collection of cradles in rattan caning, rattan braiding or bamboo. Rattan is a natural, sustainable and renewable material that we particularly appreciate.

What are the safety standards for a baby cot?

We recommend that you always buy a baby cradle that meets the current standards (NF EN 1130). These standards define the characteristics of the materials and the structure of the cradle (rounded edges, size of the holes, no edges, etc.). This is obviously a guarantee of safety for our children but also of comfort for your little one.
In a few words, here are some of these criteria: first of all, the bottom of the cradle must be flat and rigid and the mattress must fit perfectly. Also, the uprights should be at least 20 cm long and the spacing between the bars should be less than 7 cm. It must not be possible for the baby to climb over or through the bars. If the cradle is equipped with wheels, at least two of them must be lockable, the feet must be solid and sufficiently spaced for perfect stability.

Rêves et Merveilles wishes to protect your health, that of your children and preserve natural resources. The paints used on the children's furniture are ecological, non-toxic and without harmful VOC, the same goes for the varnishes. It is important that your cradle, whether folding or not, has no burrs on the metal and plastic parts. The screws of your cradle must be covered or polished and finally, there must be no splinters on the wooden parts.

It is really important to always follow the safety, use and advice provided by the manufacturers. Also, the cradle should no longer be used if your baby can sit up or stand up on his own, often around the age of 6 months, although there is no rule from one child to another. In any case, after 6 months, your baby will no longer be safe and you will have to switch to a bed with bars. Our Cots category will allow you to find what you are looking for among our large selection.
